FAQ
We have compiled answers to the most frequently asked questions about ESG, corporate sustainability, disclosure, climate risk management, and regulatory requirements.
What is ESG and why has it become so relevant?
ESG stands for Environmental, Social, and Governance. More than an acronym, it represents a management model that integrates socio-environmental and governance risks and opportunities into business strategy. Adopting ESG practices strengthens organizational resilience, meets regulatory demands, expands access to capital, and contributes to long-term value creation.
What are IFRS S1 and IFRS S2? Do they impact my company?
Both refer to general requirements for sustainability-related financial disclosures, developed by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB). These standards are increasingly applied in global markets and directly affect investor, regulator, and supply chain expectations. IFRS S1 sets out the overall requirements for sustainability-related financial disclosure, while IFRS S2 specifically addresses climate-related risks and opportunities. Companies adopting these standards enhance their transparency and competitiveness.
What is the difference between an Annual Report, a Sustainability Report, and an Integrated Report, and how do the GRI, IIRC, SASB, TCFD, and IFRS S frameworks relate?
The Annual Report, aimed at shareholders, focuses on financial performance and governance. The Sustainability Report highlights socio-environmental impacts and aims to inform a broader range of stakeholders. The Integrated Report combines financial and non-financial information to show how the company creates value over time. The IIRC merged with the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) to form the Value Reporting Foundation (VRF), which was later incorporated into the IFRS Foundation. IFRS S standards, issued by the ISSB (a division of the IFRS Foundation focused on ESG standards), set global ESG disclosure benchmarks that complement GRI by emphasizing the financial materiality of sustainability—crucial for integrated communication with investors and regulators.
Is my company required to produce an ESG report?
While no universal mandate exists yet, companies accessing capital markets, operating in global supply chains, or engaging with institutional investors are effectively being required to disclose ESG information. Adopting ESG disclosure practices not only meets growing demands but also strengthens reputation, expands capital access, and mitigates regulatory and socio-environmental risks.
How does an ESG consulting project work? What is the typical timeline?
Each project is tailored according to company size, sector, and maturity level. Generally, projects include diagnosis, materiality assessment, ESG planning, engagement processes, report development, and governance structuring. Timelines vary depending on complexity, scope, and client-defined objectives.
